T100 Clinicals: Births Observed

Pre-Approval Required. Ten births. For aspiring midwives. For this course, you will have to complete an in-person interview, agree to the requirements including a non-compete agreement, be approved, and pay $100 deposit. Then you attend one birth with a local midwife preceptor (with approval of the birthing mother, of course). You will have no clinical responsibilities, but will be expected to help with carrying, simple tasks, and cleaning. After the birth, we will sit down together and review what happened and our thoughts about the birth. Neither student or midwife preceptor will have any obligation to continue, but if approved to continue, you will pay the remaining $900 and attend 9 more births with a midwife preceptor. Work-exchange or partial work-exchange may be available, please inquire. The midwife preceptor may sign off your NARM paperwork for Phase 1, if she feels you have completed the requirements for the phase, which are minimal. This is an individual course, not a group course, and we will limit the number of students in this course simultaneously. The midwife preceptor may terminate this course at any time if she is displeased with the student actions or attitude. If that happens we will attempt to find another midwife preceptor willing to allow you to attend a birth with her and we will begin with the one trial birth again. If no midwife preceptors are available and willing, the course will be terminated and a refund of $100 per each remaining birth minus a processing fee of $50 will be made to the student. Additional births, if needed, will be $100 each. “Test out” fee is $50 for review of clinicals already completed in phase 1 with other midwife preceptors. Work-exchange, partial work-exchange, or scholarship may be available, please inquire.
