T200 Clinicals: Births as Assistant Under Supervision
Pre-approved students only
Twenty-five births. This “class” is the start of an apprenticeship. For this course, you will have to complete an in-person interview, agree to the requirements including a non-compete agreement, be approved, and pay $150 deposit. You will attend one birth with a qualified preceptor (with approval of the birthing mother, of course). In addition to responsibility to help with carrying, simple tasks, and cleaning; you will also have clinical responsibilities appropriate for your skill level.
After the birth, we will sit down together and review what happened and both of our thoughts about the birth. Neither you or the midwife preceptor will have any obligation to continue, but if approved to continue, you will pay the remaining $3,600 and attend 24 more births with a midwife preceptor. Your skills and responsibility level will increase throughout this course. The midwife preceptor may sign off your NARM paperwork for Phase 2, if she feels you have completed the requirements.
This is an individual course, not a group course, and we will limit the number of students in this course simultaneously. The midwife preceptor may terminate this course at any time if she is displeased with the student actions or attitude. If that happens we will attempt to find another midwife preceptor willing to allow you to attend a birth with her and we will begin with the one trial birth again. If no midwife preceptors are available and willing, the course will be terminated and a refund of $150 per each remaining birth minus a processing fee of $50 will be made to the student. Work-exchange or partial work-exchange may be available, please inquire.
Additional births, if needed, will be $150 each. “Test out” fee is $50 for review of clinicals already completed in phase 2 with other midwife preceptors.
Work-exchange, partial work-exchange, or scholarship may be available, please inquire.
